Does DBT work better?

DBT has been systematically studied and has been demonstrated to bring about beneficial change in patients with BPD. It has been shown to reduce emergency room care and hospitalizations to an extent that may justify its high direct cost and even make it attractive to managed care. Other cognitively based therapies have also demonstrated effectiveness, however, and even approaches that have not been subjected to as rigorous scrutiny may often produce worthwhile results. To the best of my knowledge, DBT has not been tested head-to-head with psychoanalytic psychotherapy or other conventional treatments.
